The Targa Miata started life as a 1994 Mazda Miata.
This vehicle was chosen due to its combination of strength, agility and upgrade potential. The fact that Keith literally wrote the book on the car didn't hurt!

The ideal Targa car is a fantastic road car.
Not one that is compromised by a stiff suspension or a peaky powerband, but one that offers lots of suspension travel and a wide spread of torque. So that's how the car is set up.

Flyin' Miata is the primary sponsor of the effort.

In 2008, the car ran in a class that did not permit forced induction and was built to the limit of the class.
For 2011, we entered the Open class where rules are quite relaxed, allowing us to make massive changes to the drivetrain in order to improve our speed between corners. Thanks to the excellent suspension of the Miata, we did not have to do anything drastic to the chassis.

The car is very quick.
Power is approximately 400 hp at the wheels and the handling of the Miata has not suffered.
